From the Inside Out Music Studio

2016-2017 Policies for From the Inside Out Music Studio

TEACHER RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To be prepared and on time for all lessons and classes.
  • To provide a positive atmosphere for learning.
  •  To continually study and plan so that I can give my students the best music education I can.
  •  To show respect to the student and their family but also to expect participation, cooperation and compliance to policies.
  • To do my best to communicate to the parents about their students’ progress and help them succeed however I can.
  • Due to a personal conviction, I do not teach most styles of popular music, like rock, jazz, country western, etc. I reserve the right to allow or not allow a certain piece of music.

STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES

  • It is the students job to be faithful and on time to all lessons with the proper materials.
  • To practice throughout the week as the teacher assigns.
  • To show respect and cooperation with the teacher.

PARENT RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To bring the child to all lessons on time.
  • To practice with your child daily (up to age 7) or at least twice a week (ages 8 - 11), and to listen attentively to a song your child plays at least once a week (age 12 and up).
  • To provide a reasonably quiet area to practice and a regular practice time.
  • Provide a well tuned piano.  Keyboards (with 88 keys) are only allowed for the first year of lessons/classes.  A real piano is need by the second year to learn proper piano technique.
  • To make payment on time and follow polices.

***I am renting the space at the Encore Ballroom and am responsible for it’s care while I am there.  I ask that nobody go anywhere except the restrooms and the teaching area.  If something does get damaged, the parent is expected to pay for the damage.  If it is wet outside, please bring a dry pair of shoes to prevent wet, slippery floors, or a student can participate in their socks as well.

PAYMENT POLICIES

  • Yearly Payments are due by first lesson in September.
  • Semester Payments are due by first lesson in September and by January 16.
  • Monthly Payments are due the 1 st day of each month.  September’s payment may be brought at the first lesson, if desired.  This means if you bring payment to the class or lesson, it will need to be brought to the lesson BEFORE the first of the next month.  If you prefer to send a check, my address is: Renee Knutson, 4031 County Road N, Florence, WI  54121.

MAKE UP LESSONS

  • If a student misses a class (Keyboard Games or Music Moves for Piano), there will be no refund or make up since there are more than one student involved.
  • For Shared private lesson, I will make up only if both students need to miss.  Parents of both students will need to contact me directly
  • If a student needs to miss a ONE-ON-ONE PRIVATE LESSON, I will make up only if I receive a 24 hour notice.  If it is due to illness, please let me know by 1PM the day of the lesson.  If it is a true last minute emergency, please just call as soon as you are able.   ALL other reasons require a 24 hour notice.  I allow only 2 make-up lessons per semester.  Some lessons may need to be made up during a Holiday week, if another suitable time is not available close to the missed lesson.
  • If I (the Teacher) need to cancel a lesson or class, it will be rescheduled for the same week, or the next holiday week.

There are no refunds or credits for missed lessons.

BAD WEATHER POLICY

  • I DO NOT automatically cancel lessons if there is a snow day.  Since the storms/roads are almost always clear by the afternoon. I will notify students directly if classes or lessons are cancelled.

PARENT PARTICIPATION

  • KEYBOARD GAMES AND MUSIC MOVES CLASSES: Parents are welcome for the entire class but are required to come for the last 10 minutes to see what the student has learned and for instructions on how to practice at home.
  • PRIVATE LESSONS: Parents are welcome but not required to sit in.  For students younger than 10, I ask that you come for the last 5 minutes for a short demonstration of what the student learned and how you can help them at home.
  • Siblings are also welcome to observe any lesson or class ONLY if they are accompanied by a parent and stay only in the lesson area.  No wondering around the building or being disruptive to the lesson. Parents may be held responsible for any damage done.

CANCELLATION POLICY

  • I strongly encourage parents and students to commit to the entire school year of lessons.  This will give them the best feel for the classes and lessons and will reap the most benefit.  If you must quit lessons anytime during the school year, there will be NO REFUND of money for any payments (yearly, semester or monthly).  A 30 day notice is required before stopping to help me have time to fill that spot.
